YouTube Music Desktop App (YTMDesktop) wraps the YouTube Music web player in a lightweight native desktop application for Windows, macOS, and Linux, avoiding the overhead of running it as a heavy browser tab. It adds native OS integration such as media key and touch bar controls, system tray support, and customizable keybindings for quick playback control from anywhere on the system. The app includes Discord Rich Presence integration to show friends what's currently playing, and a Companion Server API that lets a dedicated remote mobile app or third-party integrations (like Stream Deck and Loupedeck plugins) control playback remotely. Version 2.0 was a ground-up rewrite after the original project sat without updates for several years, rebuilt with a modern Electron/TypeScript codebase and an active contributor community.
