Open-source, modern terminal multiplexer and window manager for Go, with vim-like modal controls, BSP tiling, workspaces, and kitty graphics protocol support.
TUIOS is a terminal multiplexer and window manager built in Go on the Charm stack (Bubble Tea v2, Lipgloss v2). It runs inside an existing terminal and provides multiple resizable terminal panes, 9 independent workspaces, a vim-inspired modal interface, and a fuzzy-searchable command palette. Tiling options include Binary Space Partitioning with spiral layouts, a niri-style scrolling column layout, and a master-stack layout, alongside tmux-style shared borders and pane preselection. It supports the kitty graphics protocol for flicker-free image and video rendering, experimental sixel passthrough, and the kitty keyboard protocol with progressive CSI u enhancement. TUIOS includes vim-style copy mode over a 10,000-line scrollback, an interactive scrollbar, and mouse-driven selection and scrolling. Session management offers tmux-like daemon mode with detach/reattach, session resurrection after restarts, layout templates, and a session switcher, while a Tape Scripting DSL allows recording and replaying terminal workflows, including headless execution in CI/CD. The architecture uses event-driven rendering for near-zero idle CPU usage, with image ID reuse and synchronized output (mode 2026) to eliminate tearing. TUIOS is distributed via Homebrew, the AUR, Nix, Go install, Docker, and prebuilt binaries, and is released under the MIT License.
