Collection of over 140,000 software packages installable with the Nix package manager, and the implementation behind NixOS, the purely-functional Linux distribution.
Nixpkgs is a collection of over 140,000 software packages that can be installed with the Nix package manager. It also implements NixOS, a purely-functional Linux distribution. Packages are built and tested by Hydra, the project's continuous integration system, with successful builds published to a binary cache and distributed via Nix channels once they meet success criteria. Nixpkgs is one of the most active projects on GitHub, describing how to build tens of thousands of pieces of software while implementing an entire Linux distribution, and is maintained through community contributions via GitHub Issues and Pull Requests. The infrastructure is maintained by the nonprofit NixOS Foundation, funded through donations. The Nix expressions, build scripts, and NixOS modules in this repository are licensed under the MIT License, though this does not extend to the packages Nixpkgs builds, which carry their own respective licenses.
