About OpenToonz

OpenToonz is a 2D animation software published by DWANGO, built on Toonz Studio Ghibli Version, originally developed by Digital Video, Inc. in Italy and later customized by Studio Ghibli for use in its own productions. The software provides a full animation production pipeline, including drawing, inking, painting, compositing, and scanning tools suited to both traditional hand-drawn and digital animation workflows. It is cross-platform, with builds available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD, and supports custom stylesheets and plugin-style extensions. Development is community-driven on GitHub, with continuous integration across all supported platforms, active translation support through Weblate, and a public issue tracker and user forum for troubleshooting and collaboration. Most of the codebase is released under a Modified BSD License, with separate licensing terms for third-party components and bundled MyPaint brushes.
