All-in-one bootable USB creator for Mac that flashes macOS, Windows, and Linux installers from local images or a built-in macOS downloader, with legacy Apple Silicon support.
macUSB is a guided macOS app for creating bootable USB media on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, built to solve the recurring problem of creating installers for macOS Catalina and older on modern Apple Silicon hosts, where codesign failures and manual terminal workflows commonly caused issues. It supports local .dmg, .iso, .cdr, and .app source files, or a built-in downloader that fetches macOS installers directly from Apple's servers, and can calculate SHA-256 checksums for recognized source images. Beyond macOS, macUSB has grown into a broader bootable USB tool, supporting Windows images (Windows 8 and newer, UEFI-only) with optional autounattend.xml setup automation to skip OOBE steps and hardware checks, and Linux .iso images with automatic distribution, version, and architecture detection, validated against 19 different distributions on real hardware. It handles automatic media preparation, partition and format checks, and splits install.wim files exceeding FAT32's 4GB limit using wimlib when needed. The app also includes dedicated support for PowerPC Mac USB boot workflows, such as Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard. macUSB is free, notarized, available via GitHub Releases or Homebrew, localized in 13 languages, and released under the MIT License.
