Open-source modern relational spreadsheet combining the flexibility of a spreadsheet with the robustness of a database, self-hostable via Docker.
Grist is a modern relational spreadsheet that combines the flexibility of a spreadsheet with the robustness of a database. Developed by Grist Labs with significant contributions from French government organizations ANCT and DINUM, Grist stores documents in a portable SQLite-based format and supports Python formulas with full standard library access, drag-and-drop dashboards, native forms, incremental CSV imports, and row/column-level access control. It features an AI Formula Assistant compatible with OpenAI, Llama, and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint including OpenRouter for Claude model support. Grist can be self-hosted via Docker, run as a desktop app via grist-desktop, or embedded in a static website via grist-static. Authentication options include OIDC, SAML, and forward auth, with support for Authentik, Auth0, Google, and Microsoft sign-ins. The Community edition (grist-core) is fully open-source under Apache 2.0, with an optional full edition offering audit logging, advanced admin controls, and a more capable AI assistant.
