About Foliate

Foliate is a native Linux e-book reader designed to read books in style, rewritten from scratch on GTK 4 and Libadwaita with its own e-book parsing and rendering engine (foliate-js), replacing the earlier Epub.js/KindleUnpack-based version. It supports a unified library-and-viewer window, annotations, bookmarks, in-app footnote popups, vertical writing modes, and Wikipedia lookups, along with dark mode and customizable reading themes. Text-to-speech is available via speech-dispatcher and output engines like espeak-ng, and optional Tracker integration can track file locations across the library. Foliate is distributed through Flathub and the Snap Store as well as from source via Meson, and bundles several open-source JavaScript libraries including foliate-js, zip.js, fflate, and PDF.js for handling different e-book and document formats. The application itself is licensed under the GNU GPLv3 or later.
